Entro la fine dell'anno Yahoo! darà il benservito a Geocities, una delle prime community online in cui gli homesteader (così venivano identificati i suoi membri) potevano costruire il proprio spazio personale gratis già dal lontano 1995.
E' la fine di un'era, con Geocities sparisce l'ultima testimonianza vivente di un modo antico di intendere Internet - il così detto web 1.0 - dove per essere on-line bisognava conoscere il linguaggio HTML o saper maneggiare i fogli di stile.
R.I.P. mio caro Geocities, la mia prima paginetta su internet è nata proprio sulla tua piattaforma, quando ancora ci si divideva per aree tematiche chiamate neighborhood (o quartieri) ed io ovviamente avevo scelto Tokyo/Palace.
